Trees first album, ‘The Garden of Jane Delawney’ (1970) snuggles nicely into contemporary nu-folkies’ idea of the genre, and shares some of the pastoral-whimsy that characterised The Incredible String Band or Donovan, offset by some stunning interpretations of traditional material and Bias’ own songs.

Few bands have existed for such a short time yet exerted such a long shadow as Trees. Having formed in London in the summer of 1969, they recorded their debut that winter. A spellbinding combination of eerie originals and bold West Coast-influenced reworkings of traditional folk songs, it was released in May 1970 and has gone on to become one of the most revered folk-rock albums of all time
