Traffik Island is the project of the chameleonic Zak Olsen (ORB, Frowning Clouds, Thibault, Hierophants).
Beginning as bedroom recordings, Traffik’ has been honed in the venues of Geelong and Melbourne; appearing on lineups alongside such contemporaries as Montero and Sonny & The Sunsets, both solo and supported by his band (Jack Kong, Myles Cody and Jesse Williams).
In 2019 Traffik Island released their debut LP through Flightless - ‘Nature Strip’. Mixed by Phonoscope luminary Frank Maston; Nature Strip pleasantly and matter-of-factly winds its way across Kink’s inspired synthy satire and back again, to a friendly, hazy psychedelic pop.
Traffik Island is a sketchbook that is far more than the sum of parts, the uninitiated could be forgiven for mistaking Olsen’s laconic style for simplicity, but amongst the warm crackle there is poignancy in the grooves “was it worth the things in life you had to sacrifice to get there ? … Are you anywhere, anyway ?”
Olsen’s song writing palette is broad and patient, all the while punctuated with fascinating samples and tasty percussion - a sonic cleverness that is undoubtedly a sign of things to come...
